Reforestation Program

Deforestation is one of the major problems that communities in Haiti are faced with. In Haiti, the consumption of materials made of trees is vast. Woods are used for building homes, commercial and fishing boats, cattle ranches, fences, charcoal for cooking daily, furniture, and much more. In addition, trees are a major component in soil treatment for agricultural purposes, and assist in flood prevention which is very common in Baie-de-Henne. Trees also serve as a canopy for all living things in hot environment like Haiti.

One of the motivating factors upon which the Baie-de-Henne Foundation was founded is reforestation. Over the years it has become a major concern with floods that swept major areas of land away, destroyed homes, businesses, agriculture, and proven to be extremely fatal to animals and human beings.

To assist the community, AKL creates the Reforestation Program. In this program, not only does AKL motivate and educate the community on the importance of planting trees, but also does the following:

Tree Give Away
Annually, AKL donate trees to the locals (fruits and veggies) for planting in private yards or gardens.
Build the Forest (BF)
Annually, AKL selects a portion of the local forest to plant a variety of trees (purchased trees from local nurseries or seeds from the internet)
Agronomy and Agriculture Training (AAT)
Semi-annually, AKL organizes and provides the locals with basic training in soil management and crop production, cultivating plants and livestock.
